1961 Ashley 1172 Roadster
Registration No. 8585 WY
This car has been listed on my Archive since the early days of these Ashley website's.
It was in 2014 that I came across all the following photo's and details in the FSCC files.
The notes indicate that the donor car was a
Ford Popular with basically all components being used, except Bellamy 15" wheels had been used.
Not sure if the driver in the above photo is the
owner/builder or not but the Ashley bodyshell was a
Red gel coat.
However this could be a spray paint topcoat as the bonnet has been modified with the large bonnet bulge removed and a very small one added to
accommodate the carburettor top.
At sometime after, the body was repainted from Red to White as shown, it was then advertised for sale in
August/September 1991.
August/September 1991.
This Classic Car Weekly advert for the car is when George Wilson was the owner in 1991,
he lived in Whitehaven, Cumbria at that time.
Previous to Georges ownership it belonged to
Antony Gunson of Grenoside, South Yorkshire.
Antony Gunson of Grenoside, South Yorkshire.
Sometime after that sale another owner has modified the bonnet line again adding a new bonnet bulge, ventilation louvres and repainted White and this time adding a Red Stripe down the centre of the car.
December 2018
This is where things get a little bit different as
when checking the cars DVLA Registration Status I found that in 2015 the car was still registered as having a Ford 1172cc engine and the body was Red
The latest DVLA Registration Status indicates that it is still registered having just been Taxed on
1st November 2018 but it now has a 2000cc engine and the body is still Red.
