1970 Ashley 1172-Triumph
Registration No. CUW 783H
.
The early history of this 1970's Ashley is not known to me nor the latest history, but I first found mention of it on the internet in the Triumph Sports Six Club website in November 2011, the message board had it dated September 2004.
.
Daniel, the owner at the time, had it advertised on eBay and it was being discussed on the TSSC message board by members after a prospective buyer asked if any details were known about it.
The eBay auction details had long since been removed when I found the TSSC messages so had no idea what I was looking at until I realised that one of the members discussing the car was the owner and he had his website listed which still shows the car.
His description of the car was:
Triumph Ashley Roadster
Based on a Vitesse with 2 litre straight six engine.
Triumph Ashley Roadster, Hannah.
This is 1 of only 3 Triumph based Ashley Specials known to exist.
Based on 1970 Vitesse chassis and it has the 2.0 litre straight six engine. I did a lot of work on this car but had a very cramped driving position so she spent most of the time sat under cover or in the workshop fixing the bodges made by previous owners.
Most things had to be custom made, which meant doing anything took so much longer than it should have. After much thought I decided to sell.
In December 2004 Daniel still owned the car as it didn't reach it's reserve price on eBay and he decided to keep it for a bit longer, it has since been sold and is in France.
Current DVLA information 10/09/2013
The vehicle details for Triumph Ashley - CUW 783E are:
A complete mystery as they don't appear to hold any details for this Registration No. or not that I can find, or do they remove all details when the car goes overseas?
Just for the record, Daniel was told by the previous owner,
"That the car was built in 1970 using a new 'rolling chassis' from Triumph and one fresh Ashley body taken back and altered apparently by the factory to be mounted on the chassis and then registered as a 'Triumph Ashley Roadster'.
He didn't have documented written proof of this and after 30 years he wouldn't expect receipts and such to still be with the car"
It turns out that Daniel is a bit of a "Car nutter" I'm sure he will not be offended by this statement
(all will be revealed when you see his email address)
and he hopes you will visit his website too, it's called
"Revivals from Rust"

My recent contact with Daniel has resulted in a new photo taken by the new owner Jean Baptiste and sent to Daniel in March 2012.
I will try and contact Jean Baptiste to get a more upto date report on the present ownership incase the car has been sold on to others or if he still owns it.
Hopefully it will result in some more recent photo's and any events, like the one above, that he has entered.
I'm pleased to say that I have managed to contact Jean Baptiste in France and he kindly emailed me some more photo's showing the Ashley at the
5th Winter Rally of Rennes 9 March 2013 and some recent modification and works to the rear area in the car.
Jean Baptiste's email to me answered my questions and supplied information about the photo's he had sent:
Hello,
I'm still the owner of the Ashley.
I enclose a few photos.
The car is currently in work to repair the hood and the inner tissue.
I also disassembled the back to put a non-return valve to my tank.
I will come back to you soon.
I do not know much about the history of my car.
Can you help me?
Thank you
As you see he would also like to find out the early history of the Ashley 1172 before the time of Daniel's ownership, so if there's anyone out there with knowledge about the early years of the car please let me know and I will pass it on and add it to this page.
I'm expecting Jean Baptiste to keep me up to date with news of the Ashley, so keep looking at this website for additional updates.
