1966 Ashley 1172
Registration No. FHM 278D
This Ashley 1172 Roadster has always been on the Registration Index Archive
but apart from being Registered in East Ham in 1966 no other details were known.
That was until the beginning of October 2018 when
I received a message from Dave, he also sent some pictures over the following days.
Hi Ivor, the Ashley 1172 that I'm negotiating to buy is a roadster model and is on a completely standard chassis and axles.
The body is almost completely stripped of paint because it has been outside and uncovered for roughly 30+ years. The rear deck area has had a boot fitted and the front screen looks very like a 3 litre Healey item, though I may be wrong on that count. The dashboard is a piece of timber with various rusted gauges.
The said chassis is missing its chassis rails from the front foot wells back to where the rails start to arch up over the rear axle. The rear axle has been fitted with telescopic shocks in its past.
The engine and box aren't in the car but are available with the sale.

There are no seats or seat frames and the steering wheel is also missing. If I manage to get it, I will literally have to exhume it from piles of old boxes, bed frames and other debris as it's not been moved since it was put there all those years earlier.
In it's favour, the body seems to be really good and I have enough enthusiasm to put it back on the road and give it the love it so deserves.

Dave did manage to clinch the deal and transported it back to his Garage

and he has already started work on the restoration/rebuild
It's a shame that the original aftermarket Leslie Bellamy wheels have rotted so badly (the rims), but I'm going to save the centres and see if I can find another 15" wheel with the same centre size.
Managed to liberate a couple of the Bellamy centres and am pleased to report that they only need a couple of small localised repairs.

Dave has also removed the old dashboard and wiring loom and the Sprite/Midget windscreen.
I was thinking that the bodyshell was a Red F/Gel coat
painted Pale Blue, but Dave has told me the Red is the paint and the body is the Pale Blue
or more likely Ivory that has turned Bluish over
the past 50 odd years
of exposure to the elements.
March 2019
Well it was awhile since hearing from Dave that I had a message from Mick to say that his mate Dave
had sold him the Ashley.
Mick would like to fit more modern steering, also hydraulic drum or disc brakes and a different engine, has been offered a Volvo B20, a Ford crossflow also a Morris minor 1100.
He would like to keep with Ford but the Volvo is a
pre-crossflow unit so undecided.
He also has a few other projects underway,
a Clan Crusader, a couple of Schmitts plus others
including a Rochdale coupe.

Mick also mentioned that he now has the Ashley fitted
