I heard of this Ashley 1172 Roadster on the last
day of December 2016 when
Martyn Butterworth, the owner of it in 1963
contacted me to see if anyone still
had it on the road, he said;

I purchased an Ashley Red open sports in 1963, I think it was built in 1961 as it had a Rochdale C.B.C. number plate, WDK 380.
It had a Ford side valve engine, Aquaplane Head and 3 speed crash box.
Does anyone know of its whereabouts.
Thanks Martyn.

I replied to say that it was new to me and could he tell me the type of Ashley and supply me with photo's so I could publish this webpage, he responded;
Hi Ivor, Thanks for response,
I think it must have been a 1172 as it was a Ford side valve with an Aquaplane Head, twin SU and a 3 speed crash box, forward hinged bonnet as well.
I know I have a B/W photo somewhere, with me and my Dad in 1963 sat in the car with L plates on and Bobble hats on that my Mum knitted.
No luck with photo as yet but may be on one of Dads slides but there are hundreds of them!
Currently I have a rolling restoration a Rochdale Olympic Phase II 1963 I acquired the car Feb 2016 and I am just putting the trim and windows back in after an engine rebuild.

It's a Ford X flow 1300 Mexico engine overbored 90 thou about 1460cc, ported & polished unleaded head, roller rockers, Weber down draught carb, Piper stage 2 cam, balanced crank and Lightened flywheel.
Ford 2000e close ratio box to Lotus back axle, geared for 124mph @ 6500 rpm but we will have to wait and see!
Brakes suspension and electric fuel pump all replaced and a re-spray in BRG, so looking forward to getting roadworthy MOT for the Spring.
Then in April 2018 after I contacted Martyn again I got this reply;
Hi Ivor,

My Rochdale Olympic has been on and off the road again, did the big ends in in August when an oil pipe blow off the cooler.
Had the bottom end rebuilt over the winter and just done 94 miles running-in when the engine mount O/S failed, I had replaced it last year but obviously a substandard manufacturer.
Built a new dashboard and lay out with individual gauges instead of shared cluster and I am rather pleased with that.

Hoping to attend the Kit Kar show in May with the car and meet fellow club members.
