"Green Bean Special "
Thanks to the magic of the internet I heard of an Article that appeared in the Practical Classics Magazine in June 2004
I contacted them and have obtained their permission to reproduce it on this site.

And just another little twist on Green Bean.
Whilst passing a very hot 40C Aussie day looking through my file of Ashley photo's (in my air conditioned home office), I came upon this one and the Registration No. rang a bell, seeming very familiar.
When checking further I realised that it was a pre 1981 photo of the car that Richard Disbrow had purchased as a roadster.
It had at the time a Coupe Hardtop and as you can see the bonnet is the same as that shown in the Bare Bones picture No.1 in the Practical Classics Magazine even down to the Singer badge.
An interesting side observation on my part, it also has the same style add on wheel trims that I put on my Ashley Sportiva 6999 MU in 1962.
I wonder who owned it then and where the photo might have been taken, if anyone knows please let me know on my email (see below).

My thanks again to Practical Classics and their senior writer Neil Campbell for allowing me to reproduce the pages on my website and their help.
I hope to contact Richard Disbrow and to see if he still has the Ashley and hopefully get an update on the progress of it since 2004, after all it's been a few years since the article was published.
I have checked on the DVLA website and find that the car is still registered which is a good start.

I contacted Richard Disbrow, he is the FSCC Ashley Registrar,
and he sent me a few pictures of his Ashley and a cutting from
the Classic and Sports Car magazine issued December 1987.
I had in early
January 2015
found a couple more photo's taken at some car display somewhere!

I have remained in contact with Richard ever since and in August 2015 during a visit back to UK to see family and friends I planned the trip to coincide with the FSCC Historic Specials Display Day at Burford, Oxford.
( Always held on the 2nd Sunday of August )
I had arranged with Richard beforehand to get a ride in the
Green Bean Special
which was great, my first ride in an Ashley since 1965.
I was expecting a quick ride around the display ground but got a ride out of the Cotswolds Wildlife park and up the A361 to Burford and back, exhilarating trip, thanks Richard.
Then whilst following up on another Ashley 1172 in
July 2016
I found this double.

I have been to the
FSCC Historic Specials Display Day in 2017 & 2019
but the Green Bean Ashley has not as Richard has used one of his
other specials.
