1960 Ashley 1172
Registration No. BVY 6
Whilst checking the latest posts on a Facebook Group in February 2020
Keith Warnell made a comment about his Ashley body being made alongside the Robin Hood PH in Epping Forest.
I immediately commented back and asked a few questions,
as I do, and got this reply:
Ivor, It was in 1970, the registration was BVY 6, it was a dark blue roadster and it was sold as an unfinished rebuild due to getting married.
It had an Allard close ration G/box with a Ford 10 engine fitted with an 8HP head for higher compression. I still have the logbook for it too.

I had a few more questions I wanted to ask Keith so sent him
a message via Messenger to avoid clogging up
the "Golden days" Group page.
"Thanks Keith for sending the Registration Number for your
Ashley, BVY 6, also the details, it appears to have been a
1939 registration from the donor car and originally issued in York.
Does your Log book have details of the previous owners, any chance of scanning it for the webpage I would like to write.
Do you remember what type of Ashley it was, a 750, 1172 or Sportiva. If you cannot remember which I can send a picture of each
to jog your memory.
Thanks Ivor"
He replied that it was an 1172 and would find the log book later
a it's buried somewhere.
He also said that he was in Walthamstow, East London
at the time he acquired it.
It was a couple of months later that I got another message from Keith;

the "Golden days" Group page.

It was a couple of months later that I got another message from Keith;
Ivor, sorry I never got back, I have had all the drawers out here in "something to do" time in lockdown and safely, so far have not found the log book.
I will update you if I come across it, I know its here somewhere!
I note that the number is now on a red Ferrari!
Well, it was one year later, in a year that the Covid-19 Virus spread rampantly around the world, that I thought again about Ashley BVY 6
infact it was
April 2021
Has Keith Warnell survived the virus, has he survived the Lockdowns,
has he found his old log book I wondered.
So I sent another message asking if he had and also for anymore information about his Ashley.
Hoping and praying to all the Car Gods that I would get a reply.
Yes, I did, and only 3 minutes after I sent the message,
Hoorah, all was well with Keith.
However the elusive log book is still missing but have got a lot more details,
Hi Ivor, It had been on the road but was disassembled for reasons I know not. Had an Allard close ratio box I recall, this was 1970... so memory not that great.
It was all Ford, had standard pop wheels with it, can't remember engine details. Sorry, I am annoyed I can't find the logbook its here somewhere it must be. BVY 6 was the reg. I sold it, still in bits as I was getting married..
I did source a Ford 8HP head for it as I had heard that had better compression or was better in some way.

We did a bit of chatting back and forth about, Covid, Vaccines, Jab's, Easter, etc. and it was from this that Keith realised that
I was in Oz, 12,000 miles away and 9 hours ahead of England,
he also had a thought of somewhere he hadn't looked for the log book,
so I said goodnight and he went off to rummage in the Loft again.
Then 30 minutes later he sent a message to say he had found it,
by which time I had logged off and signed into the "Land of Nod".
I found the message in the morning.

It sounds from Keith's messages that came with the log book scan's
that he was most chuffed with finding it:
Found it! It was in an old suitcase!
Original registration 1.10.1939
Ford 10 special,
Looks like my old one was built on a much earlier chassis registered in 1939.
I assume an early E93A chassis, as that would make sense.
From what I see on the log book and the production of Ashley Laminates it may have been built in 1960.
Also Years ago (about 1971) I used to work with a bloke who's name was Dick King, from Colchester, who had a white Ashley coupe version.
Well that is, I guess the end of this Ashley 1172's known story.
So Mr.Dick King, if you see this story and would like to contact
me we can put together a webpage about you and
your Ashley 1172 Coupe.
